Chesham Musical Theatre Company – present Fiddler on the Roof – April 10th to 13th

Amersham Forum - Mon, 02/04/2019 - 13:05

Chesham Musical Theatre Company is proud to present Fiddler on the Roof, the gem from Broadway’s Golden Age of musicals

Tevye the dairyman must find suitable husbands for his daughters and has ongoing respectful debates with the God. Fiddler appeals to our core values and reflects the frustrations between parents and children and the reaction to change and persecution of the times.  Dramatic and emotive, but also very funny, the show is a wonderful portrayal of Jewish life and love in the early 1900s.

Fiddler is a celebration of life and its challenges. Trying to balance life – like a fiddler on a roof – Tevye attempts to hold onto his traditions despite sweeping social change that is upsetting his family values while threatening his town’s very existence and is based on Sholem Aleichem stories with Book by Joseph Stein, Music by Jerry Bock and Lyrics by Sheldon Harnick.

Fiddler on the Roof first appeared on Broadway in 1964 and swept the Tony’s with nine “Best” awards including Best Musical for a score that features “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” “If I were a Rich Man,” “Sunrise, Sunset,” and “Do You Love Me.”

Chesham Musical Theatre Company prides itself on high quality productions making local theatre accessible to all.  CMTC has won many major NODA awards over the years.

Chesham Musical Theatre Company is presenting “Fiddler on the Roof” by arrangement with Music Theatre International (Europe).  Tickets via, the show runs nightly at 7.30pm from Wednesday April 10th to Saturday 13th April, with matinee Saturday and Sunday 14th April at the Elgiva, Chesham. Tickets priced at £18 (£16 concessions)

Chiltern Name Change For Local Charity

Amersham Forum - Thu, 01/17/2019 - 09:06

Chiltern Name Change For Local Charity

A major local charity has started 2019 with a brand-new name.

The South Bucks Branch of the national Motor Neurone Disease Association* ( will now officially be known as the Chiltern Branch. The Chiltern branch helps local people living with Motor Neurone Disease and their families with grant support and advice.

Motor Neurone Disease is an extremely debilitating, terminal condition which affects the brain and nerves. The MND Association offers accurate, professional, accessible information and practical day-to-day support to enable people with MND to live with their diagnosis and achieve the best quality of life possible.

Graham Read, Chair of the Chiltern Branch, said: “Our previous name South Bucks did not totally relate to the area we cover. We needed a name which was more synonymous with our local area. We are officially launching the new branch on January 21st at Cedar Barn, Barn Lane, Hazlemere, HP15 7BQ at 12.30pm. We will be looking to enlist the support of local organisations/companies in our quest to improve the lives of local people living with this awful disease. We already receive significant support from Tesco at Loudwater.”

*The MND Association actively campaigns to ensure everyone has access to the best possible care, no matter where they live.

  • By working in partnership with the NHS and statutory services we help improve standards of care for people with MND.
  • The MND Association regularly holds events to continue to educate health and social care professionals (HSCPs) to enable them to achieve excellence in care for people living with MND.
  • With a network of MND Care Centres, our branch and group volunteers and dedication to improving standards of care, people with MND can achieve the highest quality of life possible.
  • The MND Association will continue to fund and promote ground-breaking research around the world to identify treatments and find the cure for the disease.
  • Only through collaboration will a cure for MND be discovered. Therefore, the MND Association will promote international research collaboration and organise the world’s largest conference for MND researchers and clinicians.

The Shape of the World – a new comic drama – Nov 24 / 30 Dec 1

Amersham Forum - Wed, 11/07/2018 - 09:01

The Shape of the World – a new comic drama

It was in 1735, that an expedition led by three Frenchmen
set out to discover the true shape of the earth, using
only measuring poles, maths and star sightings.  It was
an epic journey, during which they lost two of their
team, one of whom was murdered by the Spanish.  They
climbed the Andes mountains to accurately measure a 200
mile long path, travelled through uncharted parts of the
Amazon jungle at a time when it was still thought that
dragons were real and managed to make two very important
discoveries that would have a tremendous effect on the
western world.  Yet, during much of their adventure the
three Frenchmen had tremendous arguments and spent much
of their time refusing to speak to each other!

This was a quite perilous expedition and an almost
unbelievable experience undertaken by three amazing
characters.  This is their story, it’s delightful, it’s
funny, it’s a real adventure and it’s also true!
